Hellenic Centre for Photography presents a 4-day workshop with the acclaimed Greek photojournalist, Yannis Behrakis. The workshop will be held on December 6-9, 2013, for a limited number of participants, in the framework of the Athens Photo Festival 2013.
Yannis Behrakis
Yannis Behrakis is a Greek photojournalist and Chief Photographer of Reuters in Greece. Over the last 25 years he has covered through his lens some of the major conflicts. He has received numerous awards, such as the World Press Photo, three times has been named European Photojournalist of the Year by Fuji. In 2000 he received the John Faber award from the Overseas Press Club of America in New York. In the 2002 Bayeux Awards for war correspondents, he won the second prize in the photography category for his pictures of the liberation of Kabul, as well the Prix de Public. He has also won in 2004 and 2009 awards in the China International Press Photo Contest.
Description
This program is a 4-day practice oriented workshop under the guidance of Yannis Behrakis. Participants will be introduced to the methodology, techniques and ethics of photojournalism, participating in an intensive program of shooting, daily reviews and mentoring.

1st day: 16:00-21:00

On the first day participants will have the opportunity to present their existing body of work, as well as to become familiar with the methodology of photojournalism. The second and the third day involves the execution of a photo essay on a given theme through photography shooting in the daytime and evening classroom sessions with reviews. Each participant during the practical part of the workshop, has the opportunity of shooting for around 30 minutes accompanied by Yannis Behrakis, learning from his experience. Over the last day there will be a process of final editing and selection.
This workshop will be held in Greek. Participants should bring all their own equipment (digital camera, cards and –optionally- laptop). Participants will receive certificate of participation after the end of the workshop.
Tuition Fee
350 € (70 € advance payment upon registration). Participants registering before 5 April 2013 will receive a 5% discount. All those participating in the membership program of HCP receive an additional 5% discount. Tuition covers the cost of the workshop, 24 hour help from the APhF:13 team, an assistant/translator with local knowledge, snack-coffee.

Athens Photo Festival partner hotels set aside a limited number of rooms at special prices for participants from other cities; a list of suitable accommodation options will be provided to candidates.
