The superficial nature of a city, with its colourful facades, shop windows, people and things, as well as the multitude of brief encounters with people, and paths that cross, are the permanent backdrop of a photographer’s lens.
The existence of cities, their creation, is the story of the development of the art and craft of photography. Billboards and the trademarks of products on skyscrapers showed the passage of time. Shop windows with their multicoloured lights contain symbols, myths, saints and knights that take one to other times, other cultures.
The multicultural atmosphere of New York is its particular feature. The freedom of its symbolism is also its strength. The strength of expressing the past as an image, and utilising that image as a modern symbol, as a mask.
