“Under Pressure” is a photographic investigation into the history of oil and gas exploration and exploitation in Greece and Albania from the early 20th century until today. While 2019 the European Parliament declared climate emergency for Europe and the world, research for hydrocarbons was ongoing in Greece, while in Albania the heart of the local oil industry was beating inside the largest oilfield of continental Europe, 100 years after the first drillings were made.

By observing the past and the present, we are trying to imagine the future for these underdeveloped countries on the south-eastern frontier of the European Union.

The research has been completed with the support of iMEdD – Incubator for Media Education and Development. Archive material: Archivio Tagliarini, The New York Times, Albanian National Film Archive.
