His photogrpahic research takes him to Syria, where he works on various projects,
amongst which The Bazaar of Damascus and the Stone Workers. He explores
light and shape in all his themes, whether portrait or memory. His work is greatly
marked by a tenderness that his subject matter seems to always inspire in him.
In 2002, the French Cultural Centre of Damascus, Syria invited Payram to take part
in the project « days of photography ». He realised a series entitled « Facades of
the Bazaar », which he photographed in the blacksmiths quarter of the market.
His documentary-like approach somewhat restitutes the memory of these places,
what they must have been like now that they are slowly disappearing. Every shop
is photographed to be exhibited side by side in order to reconsitute the labyrinthlike
quality of the place. They are also accompanied by a soundtrack that was
recorded in the bazaar.
This project was made possible with the support of the photo club members of
the French Cultural Centre in Damascus.
