Nowadays, more than 70 million individuals suffer from an eating disorder such as Anorexia or Bulimia.  Affected persons are of all genders, appearances and ages. Unrealistic beauty ideals and the increasing trend for dieting and fitness are often emphasized as the main reasons for someone to become addicted of controlling one’s own body – nevertheless, so specialists agree, the roots of the disease lie much deeper.

I want to disappear aims to give insight into the experiences of persons who suffer from an eating disorder or already have overcome it. Is this conflict really all about food? How is it linked to one’s own identity? Why are certain behaviors helping someone to feel “better”, even just for a short time? Through the collage of over 20 protagonists, viewers are confronted with their own preconceptions about this illness, and eventually, a new perspective enfolds.
