Liquid Portrait fbarchive19012016 is a photographic portrait, which consists of a sculpture and a ‚moving collage‘ both sourcing the visual content from one single Facebook account. Selfies and holiday photographs, mobile phone snapshots of friends, pets and food as well as images from our collective visual memory have been downloaded and printed out.
To realize the sculpture I re-focused the central element of each picture by cutting it out. Literally linked and woven into each other the photographs form a torrent of images that swashes out of a disassembled computer screen and form a 3D sculpture – a physical embodiment of a Facebook avatar. Just like the Facebook interface itself is in constant flow the video shows an ever changing compositions of multiple photo-fragments. It confronts the viewer with an overload of information, yet its regular movement also has a hypnotizing effect.
