For the Icons project, we recreated a number of famous images in our studio, faithfully reproducing different
scenes as three-dimensional models before photographing them again, allowing traces of the studio to
appear in the picture. The resulting images – framed by model making tools and photographic equipment –
seem to show something familiar, but at the same time we see what they really are: paper, cardboard, sand,
cement, wood, stone, and a huge amount of glue. Whilst the scenes are arranged to focus the viewer’s attention
on the icon within the picture, traces of the construction expose the scene as “fake”, raising a series
of questions about reality, authenticity and image manipulation.
