Soy sauce coming out of a breast, noodles flowing from ear to ear, and a body covered in rice papers. In this installative work, which cites parts of my long-term project “Asia Bistro – Made in Rice”, I want to use food, bodies, and metaphorical performance acts to address Asian stereotypes in the West and how they influence the self-perception of the Vietnamese diaspora community in Germany, especially that of first-generation immigrants. Like the rice papers covering the stuffed fillings, they tried to live a quiet life, no complains, just hard work. To become a role model, the “good immigrants”.
“Asia Bistro – Made in Rice: Becoming the role model”: Mixed media installation. Photography printed on silk, acrylic glasses, soy sauce bottles. Performance video, 19 min. stereo. Variable dimension.
