The “Greek Lightscapes” are night-time photographs
using an extremely long exposure,
which allows me to, literally, paint a part of
the landscape with artificial light while the
picture is being taken.
It is like applying to the field of conventional
photography the tools used to manipulate
digital images.
The torch is my paintbrush, the flash my
spray, the bulb my pencil. And, like the
mouse, I roam at will trough the image, in
the open air, under the stars.
This approach expands the expression field
of photography and, at the same time, reconnects
with the real etymological meaning
of “photo-graphy”
The landscape is not simply recorded but
also redrawn, interpreted, modulated,
walked over.
The picture is no longer a snapshot but a
superposition of different moments, an accumulation
of time.
In this way, the photography, in addition of
documenting reality, acquires the ability to
emphasize its theatrical and potentially poetic
character.
