This series of portraits as indicated by its title
attempts an approach to the photographic
representation of young people from 20 to
35 years of age.
This attempt is situated close to the Central
European tradition of the decade of the 20s
and the 30s ‘New Objectivity’. Specifically, in
an encyclopedic approach to photography
that was expressed through the systematic
photographing-typology- of single individuals
of various age, profession and social
groups. Additionally, the white environment
where the photographed subjects are placed
as well as the direct approach of the photographers
connote the iconographic codes of
the postwar photographic production in the
genre of portrait.
Accordingly, the viewer is trapped from
the models body geography, the details revealed
of the freedom they have to select
their clothes to pose by placing their hands
on their face, their waste or behind their
backs and finally to expose or cover their
scars or their tattoos. Yet, we must not forget
that this conscious choice of pose communicates
their cultural identity. This is exactly
the area where the typological aspect of this
photographic series is situated.
