Overview
This is a three-day intensive workshop under the guidance of two internationally acclaimed photo practitioners, Lefteris Pitarakis (photojournalist of Associated Press, London) and Chryssa Panousiadou (photographer and filmmaker). The workshop will introduce a limited number of participants in the methodology, techniques and creative possibilities of the latest advancements in DSLR technology.

This program is designed for is designed for anyone interested in shooting video with a DSLR camera, no experience is necessary. It will also be suitable for videographers who are looking to make the transition from a video camera to a DSLR.

Through a process of demonstrations, discussions, real world examples, practical exercises and exploration, this course will cover technical aspects about how the DSLR can be utilized as video equipment, the workflows, the fundamentals of sound and sound recording and an extensive module on visual story-telling with an emphasis on shooting for editing and introduction to script-writing. There will be lots of own cameras and video and audio equipment for hands-on trying and testing.

This workshop will be held in Greek. Participants will receive certificate of participation after the end of the workshop.

Upon completion of the seminar a certificate of participation will be provided to participants.

Tuition Fee
250 € (60 € advance payment upon registration). Participants in the membership program of HCP are entitled for a 10% discount. Tuition covers the cost of the workshop, snacks and coffee and a copy of the Athens Photo Festival catalogue.

Lefteris Pitarakis is a photojournalist with the Associated Press since 1998 based in London. He studied photography and video, majoring in photojournalism and digital imaging and holds a Master’s degree in Photojournalism from the University of Westminster. He had worked in the greater Balkan region, and in April 2000 for 5 years he was posted in the Middle East covering mainly the Palestinian uprising against Israel in the West Bank the Gaza Strip and Israel. He traveled in the greater Middle East region to Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan and covered the aftermath of the US-led wars in Afghanistan and in Iraq. He had worked extensively in Pakistan and most recently he covered the Arab Spring uprising in 2011 in Egypt and worked in Tunisia and Libya during the war. He covered the summer 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon and that body of work from the conflict along with the rest of the AP photo team that covered it, made them finalists for the 2006 Pulitzer Prize. He presents his work and lectures about ethics in universities and conferences in the UK, US and Europe. He works extensively with video and multimedia and also trains Associated Press (AP) photographers in Europe and Asia in using DSLR video. He holds a Master’s degree in Photojournalism from the University of Westminster.

Chryssa Panousiadou is a photographer and filmmaker. She started her career as a commercial photographer in 1999. In 2000, Chryssa moved to Jerusalem, where she lived and worked for five years covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in West Bank, Gaza and Israel. In Jerusalem, she first freelanced for Gamma Press agency (France, USA) and then for Panos Pictures agency (UK) as well as for National Greek News Agency, ANA (Athens News Agency). Chryssa is now based in London, UK, where she works as a freelance photographer and a documentary researcher/producer while continuing to pursue her personal projects. Her work has been published in The Guardian, The Times, BBC On Line, Paris Match, Newsweek, L’Espresso, Fortune Magazine, Der Spiegel, The Herald, Globe and Mail and others. Currently, she is the production assistant for a 6-episodes documentary series, focused on the Middle East, commissioned by the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT).
