MAIN EXHIBITIONS

Under the general title “Fluid identities”, featured a series of international and national exhibitions from established and emerging artists, in all areas of contemporary photography practice and forms, ranging from art and documentary photography to photographic installations, film and video. It reflected key issues of today’s world, in response to the constantly changing conditions of our present reality, and on all its dimensions: aesthetic, conceptual, ideological and social.

SATELLITE EXHIBITIONS

Exhibitions spaces and galleries across the city present selected projects, not necessarily related to the theme of the Festival during the months October-November.

YOUNG GREEK PHOTOGRAPHERS

Since 1987, the annual Young Greek Photographers exhibition helps Greek talented photographers, between the ages of 18-35, to be exhibited and introduced to a wide audience and network of photography enthusiasts and professionals.

SCREENINGS

The Festival’s program has expanded to include a multimedia section. Recognizing power of visual story telling that combine still images, video, graphics and sound features some of the most engaging visual narratives, multimedia projects of creators from around the world, with important global issues relevant to our contemporary world. Two days full of screenings at the main festival venue.

PHOTO VOICES

Photo Voices brought together 10 acclaimed photo practitioners and critical thinkers, whose work and thought stands out for their subject matter, process and critical insight. Under the motto “We Speak Photography”, Photo Voices was designed as a set of short and inspiring talks to share thought provoking images and words into a broad range of issues.

PORTFOLIO REVIEWS

The Athens Photo Festival’s international portfolio reviews offered an opportunity for serious amateurs and professional photographers to interact with international and national experts in the field of photography and get direct feedback on their work or career development advice.

ATHENS PHOTO INSPIRATION 2013

Athens Photo Festival conducted a learning programme, including workshops, school and community group visits. The programme of workshops and seminars offered a unique opportunity for hands-on experience, critical thinking, and creativity.

PHOTOGRAPHY AS PERFORMANCE

Modern art prescribes and promotes the mixing of species and work across conventional boundaries of “expressive fields”. The program “Photography as Performance”, was an opportunity for testing how an art between life and art (performance) and a major visual art (photography) can cross to produce ultimately interesting hybrids.

INTERNATIONAL GUESTS

The festival was a great opportunity for our international guests, including influential people in the museum/fine art photography scene, to meet the Greek photography community and discover photographers from Greece and Europe as well as to interact each other.

VOLUNTEERS

The Athens Photo Festival 2013 was realized with the involvement and engagement of over 100 dedicated volunteers for a wide variety of areas and levels of responsibility. Festival’s volunteer programme offered a unique experience to volunteers and quality to the local community.
