“What is the sea for you?” I asked to Marie, a young migrant from Cameroon.
“It’s my only hope and my biggest fear” she answered.
Thousands of sub-Saharans leave their country with the hope of a better life in Europe. The tightening of European migration policies makes their journey increasingly dangerous and unsuccessful.
Many migrants are stranded for months or years in Morocco, historically a transit country that has now become a de facto destination country.
They are caught in a limbo, existing somewhere between the end of their old lives and the start of something unpredictable.
